“You make the world a better place”
“You make the world a better place”
This isn’t just a phrase I’ve overused and reiterated millions of times. I will probably reiterate it and emphasize it millions of more times before I leave this earth.
It’s a sentence filled with so much encouragement and power.
I don’t think most of us, myself included, believe that we *actually* make the world a better place…maybe until someone reminds us that we do.
Sometimes someone says something that puts a smile on our face and peace and joy in our heart… Something as simple as, “you are my favorite bus driver” or “you have raised an amazing daughter, you’ve done such a great job” or “thank you for all you do” or “you’re the best teacher, ever.”
I think some of us can go through life without ever knowing that we make it better, and that’s a damn shame.
So as I’ve been told and reminded recently, I’m telling and reminding you, too…
This is your reminder that you’re amazing.
This is your reminder that someone has fond memories of you, someone thinks highly of you, someone has smiled because of you, someone has felt comforted by your presence, someone knows what love is because of you, someone has laughed because of you, someone is still on this earth because of you…and the list goes on.
In this world, it’s super important that we tell each other things that lift each other up. Those simple things that might not feel like much, could change someone’s entire day or life.
If someone feels encouraged by your words, they are more apt to have a full cup that can flow into others.
Simple acts of kindness include simple statements. If you like someone’s shirt, tell them. If you think someone’s hair looks beautiful, tell them. If someone’s presence gives you joy or makes you excited or keeps you going or makes you feel excited to go to work or school… Tell them.
Just tell them.
A Christmas card from the student who found me in Aldi the other day! (I should have known!)
One of my kids from my bus came up to me in Aldi the other day and her grandma told me that she talks about me all the time and she says I’m the best bus driver. Then she went on to tell me that when she was a kid, she always thought the bus driver was so mean… And she’s very grateful her granddaughter has a nice one. As this child hugged me a couple times, I was speechless and humbled.
I never knew. I honestly never knew she (or anyone else) felt that way until that moment.
I honestly felt empowered, encouraged and fulfilled!
I’m pretty stern with the kids on the bus because let’s face it, we have to be, and to myself I come across as a mean bus driver. That’s my own perception of myself as I try to keep five-year-olds in line every day. But to some, maybe a gentle “good morning” or a “have a great day” or a hug back means more than I’ll ever know.
You never know what someone else is going through, so always be kind.
Those words from her stuck with me even to this day, they were more powerful than probably she even knows.
So this is what I’m talking about. It’s as simple as going out of your way to say hi and to tell someone that you think they’re great.
Let’s spread kindness like wildfire.
Let’s keep believing in the good. But let’s not stop there… Let’s BE the good, let’s be the change!
Dear Framily, friends and community:
Thank you for making the world a better place, each of you, thank you for making this community what it is and coming together as one to encourage and lift up and inspire each other.
You’re an amazing part of our life and we’re grateful for you! You are helping make the world a little brighter, a little stronger, together.
As we fight for rights and peace and joy, let’s not forget that we can be (and are!) the kindling that ignite the fire… All it takes is one to start a fire, but it takes constantly feeding the fire in order for it to stay lit.
Encourage each other, inspire each other, be kind to one another, you never know the power of just one voice, of one sentence, of one moment.
We’re proud to know you, beautiful souls.
